Eurythmy, meaning harmonious rhythm, is a gentle and beautiful form of dance movement to the accompaniment of classical music, poetry or speech sounds. It has been called "Music made visible and speech made visible". Its purpose is to enliven the human being, bringing movement and flexibility into one's inner and outer life. Eurythmy began in Europe 1912, with indications from Rudolf Steiner, as a new art of movement and later was developed to serve the educational needs of Waldorf schools. Therapeutic Eurythmy is a movement form through which the patient can counteract the disharmony of illness. Eurythmy can also be a meditative practice and at the same time a form of gentle exercise.
In the Tuesday afternoon Eurythmy class, students will learn several rhythmical movement pieces with poetry as the inspiration, pieces with musical accompaniment and various exercises for relaxation and meditation. For more information about Eurythmy, please contact www.eurythmy.org.
Kathleen Purdy, of Wolfville, is offering Eurhythmy classes for adults at our school. Cost is $10/person per session, no experience necessary.
